Hugo House 30/30 Writing Challenge…again

Apparently I’m addicted to random challenges

Alright, so I’m doing this again…very spontaneously.

Last year, I found out about the Hugo House 30/30 writing challenge through a former co-worker in advance so I had a couple weeks to prepare.

This year, I was reminded by a post in my Facebook feed on the day the challenge begins – TODAY! – and I thought, what the hell? I even dragged my boss into the challenge. (It took very little convincing.) Here’s our donation page, if you feel like contributing to a really good cause. (No, you’re not contributing to my rambling prose – you’d be contributing to an organization that teaches people to actually write.)

This year will be similar to last in that for my part I will attempt to post something everyday until October 30th.

So here I am at the beginning of the challenge, with zero planning under my belt and drawing a complete blank. I’ve already procrastinated in every way I reasonably can… made dinner…changed out of work clothes and into dance clothes…decided I’d rather dance in a different dress so changed again…had a lovely conversation with Min and snuggled Roxie’s soft kitty tummy…all to avoid the pressure of my deep desire to write something significant today and wondering how the hell I’m going to come up with content for the next 30 days.

I used to be good at this shit. I will be good at it again.

I am open to suggestions

Roxie thinks I should write about food, although, she’s less interested in my opinions since I became vegan-ish three weeks ago. (Yah, that happened. That was also a random challenge.) Min wants me to write about soft fabrics, specifically jersey and micro-fleece, but I’m sure that would merely devolve into complaints about how she won’t get off my damn sweater.

I do have another consumerism project for October that I’m excited to write about. The plan is very loose at the moment and I’m not entirely sure yet what the hypothesis is – but the idea is to compare shopping experiences in one high-end department store, one low end department store, and a boutique. To keep the experiment as “clean” as possible, I’ll be shopping for similar items across locations. I’ll be doing this experiment with a friend who is a different economic situation than I am…and I guess we’ll just see what happens?  See? The idea is still rough – I need to do more work and planning, but I think it could be interesting and fun.

So other than this half-baked project and a few really shitty suggestions from my cats, I’m looking for ideas. Feel free to send them my way!
